Case Search

To find and view a case, go to the Wyoming Judicial Branch web site. Find the "Supreme Court Electronic Docket" on the left menu, then click on "Public Docket". This brings you to the Case Search screen:

You may search for a case by either typing in a specific case number on the left - "Find Case:", or search for a case on any of the fields listed on the above screen. Following are some hints about specific fields. If there is a black triangle on the right-hand side of the field, click that to find the list of possible values.

Case Number: You may type in any case number or a partial case number. Please note the format of the case numbers.

Case Classifications: On the right, the three fields are the case classifications. You may pick any value in any of the three fields:

  • Group (e.g. Direct Appeal, Original Proceeding)
  • Type (e.g. Criminal, Civil)
  • Subtype (e.g. Crimes Against a Person, Labor and Employment)

Case Status: Case status is an indication of the progress the case. Examples are:

  • Unmatured (case is in the briefing process)
  • Set (scheduled for oral argument)
  • Under Advisement (in the process of decision by the court)

Full Title: The Full Title field will search for a case using any portion of a word in the full title of the case. This works well for portions of party names.

Docketed Date From/To: If you know approximately when the case was originally filed, use these dates to narrow down your search. It is not necessary to fill in both fields.

Exclude Closed: This is normally checked so that only open cases are returned. If you want to see a closed case, uncheck this field.

Case List

When you click the "Search" button or hit the "Enter" key, the system will use the criteria to search for a case. It returns a list of cases that meet your criteria:

The list of cases is displayed in case number order, highest (most recent) to lowest. You may sort the list of cases by clicking on the yellow arrows at the top of the Search Results screen. If there were more than 50 cases that met your criteria, at the bottom and top of the Search Screen it will list how many total cases met your criteria and allow you to get the next 50 cases by clicking on "Next":

You can use the information on this screen to assure you have the right case. When you've found it, click on the case number to view the case.

Hint: If no cases are found, there may be several reasons:

  1. The case is confidential (e.g. juvenile) and not available to the public.
  2. The criteria are conflicting. It's best not to use too many criteria values when searching for a case. For example, it may be that you need to see a closed case, but the "Exclude closed" box is checked, or you would not find a Type of "Civil" with a Subtype of "Crimes Against a Person".
