Wyoming Child Welfare Legal Resource Manual
Wyoming Child Welfare Legal Resource Manual, 2nd Edition

In April of 2002, the Children's Justice Project (CJP) published the Wyoming Child Welfare Legal Resource Manual (formerly Judicial Benchbook on Wyoming Child Welfare Laws). The Manual is a compilation of state and federal law and best practices and has proven to be a valuable resource for many professionals involved in the court system. The manual was updated in 2008 and 2010.

Specifically, the Manual covers:

  • Key legal issues involved in child abuse and neglect, termination of parental rights, guardianship and adoption cases;
  • Key federal laws including the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997, Interethnic Placement Act and the Indian Child Welfare Act;
  • Chapter on the Indian Child Welfare Act;
  • State and federal case laws;
  • Court best practices including list of key questions that should be addressed at each hearing;
  • A comprehensive bibliography; and
  • A Child Protection Act Time Line.
  • Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children.

Copies of the Manual are available to juvenile court judges, district court commissioners, district/county attorneys, court-appointed guardians ad litem, court- appointed parents' attorneys, DFS workers and CASA programs. To order a copy and/or to gain online access, please contact the CJP Coordinator.
